The Sift is a new dimension you explore during Minecraft Dungeons II (Minecraft Dungeons 2)‘s campaign. Xbox Wire calls it the first new dimension in Minecraft in over 14 years, with its own biomes, mobs, hazardous blocks and shifting Sift Tides that change how the world plays. It’s also coming to Minecraft: Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027.

Coming to survival Minecraft too? See The Sift update for Minecraft Java and Bedrock.

What the Sift is

Officially, the Sift is an uncharted dimension “teeming with threats, mysteries, and breathtaking beauty,” as the Steam page puts it. The story has the illagers invading it, and you follow them through a rift. An early review says the world is interconnected, with no loading screens except when you move between the Overworld and the Sift.

Biomes and locations

Xbox Wire names two new biomes, Meadows and Carapace. Pre-launch data lists the Sift’s areas as Lullaby Hills, Singer’s Meadow and The Carapace (which includes the Echo Den). Treat these names as reported until you confirm them in game.

How you get there

Pre-launch data says you enter through a Deep Dark portal using the Note Block Machine, and that rifts created by the Grand Illusioner’s staff can also lead there. We haven’t verified this in the finished game. See the story quests in the game for the actual route.

Sift Tides

Sift Tides are changing conditions that affect how you move and use souls. Per pre-launch data:

TideEffect
FlowNo special effect
ThriveFaster soul regeneration and faster artifact cooldowns
EndureStronger mobs spawn and passive soul regeneration stops

An early review confirms the Thrive and Endure idea: conditions favor you in one phase and become tougher in the other. Plan artifact-heavy builds around Thrive, and be careful in Endure. See Soul Storms for the endgame layer.

Enemies and bosses

Pre-launch data lists the Sift bosses as the Monarch, Sculk Monstrosity and Harmonizer, with sculk-themed mobs and hazardous blocks. Boss names are unverified for the release build.

Gear tied to the Sift

Several gear names look Sift-themed: Sift Sickles (weapon), Sifter and Mad Sifter armor, Realmreacher armor, and others. See the weapons and armor databases. Effects for many are not yet documented.

How the Sift changes play

Why it matters

The Sift is the game’s main hook, and the Steam page leads with it. For how long it takes to explore, see how long to beat.

Details from pre-launch sources may change; we’ll update once verified in the release build.
