Dungeons II Offline vs Online Hero: Can You Switch?

Players say there is no way to switch a Minecraft Dungeons II (Minecraft Dungeons 2) hero between offline and online. Offline and online heroes are separate, and the game asks you to pick one when you create a hero. If you started offline and now want to play with friends, the only route players describe is making a new online hero. Mojang has not confirmed or explained this, so everything below is player reports.

What players report

Guest heroes and local co-op

All of these are single posts, so treat each as a symptom rather than a rule. See co-op and crossplay connection issues for quest reward problems with guests.

What to do

  1. Decide before you start. If you will ever play with remote friends, create an online hero. If you will play without a connection, create an offline hero. Players say you cannot change this later.
  2. Do not delete your offline hero to test. Nobody has posted what happens to progress when you do.
  3. Make a separate hero for each person in a family setup rather than relying on a guest hero.
  4. Check the hero list before assuming progress is lost. See hero level reset or wiped.
  5. Send feedback. Mojang’s Steam update post links aka.ms/Dungeons2Feedback for feedback and aka.ms/Dungeons2Bugs for bugs.

What we could not verify

Whether Mojang plans to let heroes move between modes, whether online heroes can be played without a connection, and how guest heroes are stored. We will update this page if Mojang says anything in its update notes.

FAQ

Can I change a Minecraft Dungeons II offline hero into an online hero?

Players say no. Several Reddit posters looked for the option and found none, and one says it says 'playing offline' with no way to change it. Mojang has not published a transfer or conversion option that we found, so the only route players describe is creating a new online hero.

Can I play my online hero offline?

Players say online and offline heroes cannot be used in each other's mode, and several complain about it. One player with a poor connection says they get lag spikes even when playing alone online and wants to play the online hero offline. We found no official workaround.

Why can't my child or partner play their guest hero without me?

In offline couch co-op, a Reddit poster says the second player's guest hero only appears while the main profile's hero is logged in, and the guest's own PlayStation profile started a fresh level 1 hero. A Switch 2 poster says a spouse's hero showed up only in lobbies hosted by their son's account. Both are player reports and no fix is confirmed.

Why does Switch 2 ask my second profile for Nintendo Switch Online in couch co-op?

One Reddit poster says adding a second controller and profile on Switch 2 prompted them to sign that profile up for Nintendo Switch Online, even though they only wanted local play. We don't know if this applies to every setup; it is a single report.

Can I copy my main hero to a child's profile like in the first game?

A Switch 1 player says the first game let them clone a main character, and they could not find how to do that in Dungeons II. We found no confirmed method.

Where do I report this to Mojang?

Mojang's Steam update post points to aka.ms/Dungeons2Feedback for feedback and aka.ms/Dungeons2Bugs for bug reports.
