Dungeons II Hero Level Reset or Wiped: What to Do

SymptomYour hero shows level 1 or looks wiped after a freeze, lag, crash or restart.

If your Minecraft Dungeons II (Minecraft Dungeons 2) hero suddenly shows level 1 after a freeze, lag spike or restart, first check that you are on the right hero: online and offline heroes are separate. If the right hero really lost its progress, no fix has been reported yet. Three players have described it since launch, and Mojang has not published anything, so treat it as an open bug.

What players report

These are three unrelated accounts. We have not reproduced the problem and do not know whether it is a server-side save issue, a local save issue or a display bug.

What may be going on (not confirmed)

What to do

  1. Check the hero list. Go to the main menu hero selection and look for both an online and an offline hero under your account before assuming a wipe.
  2. Do not create or delete heroes to test it. We do not know what that does to existing progress.
  3. Sign in through the Xbox app and use the same Microsoft account every time, as a general precaution.
  4. Note what happened. Time, whether you were online or offline, whether the game froze first. This helps if you report it.
  5. Report it. Post in the Steam discussion or use Mojang’s feedback channels. No official answer exists yet.
  6. If you want out, Steam allows refunds under two hours of play within 14 days of purchase; see Steam refunds.

Cloud saves: what is documented

We found no official statement on how Dungeons II stores or syncs heroes. For the first game, Minecraft.net documented a manual cloud save: you upload a hero from the character select screen and download it on another platform with the same Microsoft account (Dungeons Cloud Saves Out Now). Whether Dungeons II works the same way is unconfirmed, and a Steam thread asks for Steam Cloud saves. If you are worried about a sign-in problem, contact Minecraft support at help.minecraft.net before signing out or reinstalling.

What we could not verify

Where saves live, whether the wipes are permanent, and whether a patch addresses it. We will update this page as soon as there is a confirmed cause or fix.

FAQ

Why did my Minecraft Dungeons II hero go back to level 1?

We do not know. Three unrelated players reported it: one after a lag that kicked them to the main menu, one whose offline hero was level 7 but showed level 1 after coming back, and one reviewer whose character was wiped after a freeze. Mojang has not commented as of Sep 30, 2026.

Can I recover a wiped hero?

Nobody has posted a recovery. We have not verified where progress is stored, so we cannot say whether a local file or an online profile holds it.

Are online and offline heroes the same?

No. Players report they are separate and cannot be transferred, so check you are looking at the right hero type before assuming progress is lost.

Should I refund?

That is your call. Steam refunds are possible under two hours of play within 14 days of purchase, and one reviewer who lost their hero after about two hours said they were considering it.
